Plaza de la Constitución

Plaza de la Constitución is one of San Sebastián's most iconic and atmospheric squares, located in the heart of the Parte Vieja (Old Town). This beautifully proportioned rectangular plaza is instantly recognizable by its colorful balconies numbered from former bullfighting days when they served as box seats. Today, the square is surrounded by traditional Basque buildings housing some of the city's best pintxos bars, restaurants, and cafes, making it a vibrant hub of local life day and night. Visitors staying at Casa Zurriola Beach - Surf, eat and relax! will find this plaza just a pleasant 10-minute stroll across the river, perfect for immersing themselves in authentic San Sebastián culture. The square comes alive during festivals, particularly the Tamborrada in January when thousands of drummers fill the streets. Throughout the year, it's an ideal spot to enjoy a café con leche while people-watching, sample world-famous pintxos at the surrounding bars, or simply soak in the historic ambiance. The plaza serves as an excellent starting point for exploring the Old Town's narrow medieval streets, with the nearby San Telmo Museum and La Bretxa market within easy walking distance. Early evening (around 7-9 PM) is particularly magical when locals gather for the txikiteo (pintxos bar crawl), creating an unforgettable atmosphere of conviviality and culinary excellence.
